“I thought people didn’t care for each other until I started working here.”
This thought just spilled out of Hailey this week after we received a large number of brand new coats to give to our members in need.
We have received several very random donations at the Club over the past couple of weeks. None of these were specifically requested. They just came from people who know the work we do and wanted to help in any way they could. In addition to the coats, the donations have included craft supplies, pumpkins, whiffle ball items, and more.
We were talking about how the coat donation came about (a random conversation a Club supporter had at a fundraiser for another organization) when Hailey made the statement above.
Hailey is one of our teen employees that work at the Club through a partnership with Rushmore Academy and Marion Goodwill. When we think of the benefits of the Club, we tend to concentrate on our Club members. However, these teens are also impacted by our mission and it goes far beyond basic work experience.
So, to those that support the Club, whether through donations of money or items, through volunteering, or even through spreading our message, we hope that you know just how much your generosity means to us. It not only impacts our Club members, but also our staff.
Hailey’s heartfelt admission was a much needed reminder for all of us.
